JAS Basement Players

We were up chez Atwoods the weekend of Feb. 15-17, where Hannah joined us, for the purpose of celebrating Dominick's 4th birthday. After the festivities were over, on Saturday night late, the first performance of the JAS (Jefferies-Atwood-Simpson) Basement Players took place. Of course, we were playing Rock Band, and all of us had a part. The group consisted of Kelly Atwood on bass/lead guitar/drums, Dale Simpson on vocals, Hannah Jefferies on drums & guitar, and Mike Atwood on lead/bass guitar/drums. It's a multi-talented group, capable of playing many instruments. (Except for its lead singer.) The group's manager & photographer, Leslie Simpson, recorded the event for posterity.

JASBP whipped through several old classics & new rock songs of varying difficulty, and may actually have earned as many as 200 fans and about $300 once. That's why we play in the basement! Our vocalist was relegated to his position because his hands and feet aren't dexterous enough to play guitar and drums. Not that his voice has much to commend it, either! (He's no Jim Morrison.) But at least he could keep up with the words of many songs he knew, and even some he didn't know.

For bookings, contact Mark Claassen, our agent at William Morris Agency, in Nashville. You will have to catch him by surprise, though, because if he knows you are calling about us, he will not be in the office.

I chose this shot because it captures the stairs behind, down which I thudded the next morning, as if on a sled down a snowy hill. For me, walking without paying attention while wearing slick socks on slick treads led to the accident. I hope the Atwoods are more careful than I was!

Don't forget Hannah's vocals! You both rocked. We'll have to convince Mom to join us next time.

Ooops! Forgot that. Thanks for the correction. And did I say that Mike sang lead on some songs, too?
